Dr. Mihir Kanti Majumder

Dr. Mihir Kanti Majumder is a prominent figure in Bangladesh, recognized for his extensive contributions to biodiversity, social development, and poverty alleviation. Born on May 14, 1953, in Pirojpur, he holds a PhD in Health Care Administration and a master’s degree in Primary Health Care Management, along with a background in Applied Chemistry. His professional training spans various fields, including renewable energy and e-governance, acquired through programs in countries like China, the USA, and the UK.
Dr. Majumder’s career in public service began in 1981 when he joined the Bangladesh Civil Service (Administration) cadre. Throughout his career, he has held several significant positions, including Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and Forests, He played a crucial role in environmental policy and management in Bangladesh, contributing to national communications on climate change under the UNFCCC guidelines. Currently, he leads the Environmental and Social Development Institute (ECSDI), focusing on sustainable development and biodiversity conservation. He is the architect of the Livestock Banks initiative, which provides impoverished families with livestock to foster self-sufficiency. This program not only aids in poverty alleviation but also promotes community empowerment through a sustainable model of wealth creation.
He has been instrumental in various environmental initiatives, participating as a delegate in international conferences such as the Ramsar Convention and the Convention on Biological Diversity.
Dr. Majumder Developing strategies that enhance the resilience of agricultural practices to climate change, ensuring food security and sustainable livelihoods for farmers. Promoting agro-processing industries to add value to raw agricultural products, which could improve income for farmers and create nonexpanding programs like Livestock Banks to further empower impoverished communities through self-sufficiency and economic independence. Advocating for the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices that minimize environmental impact while maximizing productivity.
Through these initiatives, Dr. Majumder aims to foster a more sustainable and equitable agro-industrial sector in Bangladesh, addressing both environmental challenges and socio-economic issues.
